Call for Session Proposals
The Pacific Risk Management ‘Ohana (PRiMO) Conference
Building A Resilient Pacific
March 10-13th, 2020
Hawaii Convention Center, Honolulu, Hawai’i
www.primohui.org

PRiMO is a coalition of organizations with a role in hazard and climate risk management
in the Pacific region. We recognize the value of collective action and are committed to
enhancing cooperation, coordination, and collaboration to strengthen and sustain
resilient island communities. PRiMO welcomes all stakeholders working to build resilient
island communities to submit session proposals by Tuesday, November 19th, 2019.

2020 PRiMO Conference Theme

Building a Resilient Pacific

Pacific Islands are not only connected by our ocean geography, ocean resources, and
cultures, but also by our shared risks. The impacts of typhoons, tsunamis, rising sea
levels, increasing temperatures, and ocean acidification are both local and regional.
PRiMO’s 2020 conference is meant to strengthen collective action toward building
resilience across the region. We will reflect on our individual and collective ability to
recover from and cope with recent impacts. We will explore solutions to better prepare
for future events in ways that leverage advances in science and technology and that
reflect the culture and values of the Pacific.

Suggested session topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Precovery: Pre-disaster Recovery Planning and Preparedness
  • Resilient Communities: Housing, Infrastructure, Planning, and Mitigation
  • Next Generation Technology: Satellites, Modeling, and Decision Support Tools
  • Community Perspectives: Place-based and Traditional Knowledge

Submitting a Session Proposal

The 2020 PRiMO Conference is inviting proposals for the following session types:

Full-length Session (90 minutes):

  • Talk Story: Session leaders provide an overview of the topic, question, or
problem, followed by an informal discussion. e.g. Brainstorming, idea generation,
    sharing
  • Working Session: Focus on developing tangible outputs to specific
issues/challenges. This includes, but is not limited to: scenario planning, tool
    critique, or prototypes.
  • Panel: Convene a small group of speakers to present on a similar topic or issue.

Individual presentation (15 minutes): Presentation or tool demonstration on a topic
suitable to PRiMO and its hui. Conference organizers will group individual presentations
into a 90 minute session, or recommend a Poster presentation.
