In a letter to the USC community on February 29, 2024, USC Provost Andrew T. Guzman announced this year’s University and Distinguished professorships, the university’s highest academic honors. Our own Dr. Petros Ioannou, a long-time professor at USC and renowned transportation researcher, was honored with the title of University Professor. Provost Guzman notes, “We present these annually to select outstanding faculty who have brought great distinction and honor to our university through their work. Their research enlightens and enriches collective understandings outside of USC and contributes to the advancement of society.” Dr. Ioannou and the rest of the selected professors will be celebrated at the annual Academic Honors Convocation in April at USC.

Petros Ioannou is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial and Systems Engineering, and the Director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technologies at the Viterbi School of Engineering. He also holds the A.V. ‘Bal’ Balakrishnan Chair in Engineering. Dr. Ioannou is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has served on METRANS’ executive committee since 1999 and has completed 18 research projects under PSR and NCST grants.
