METRANS has launched Transportation Pathways (www.transportationpathways.org), a new website which aims to introduce high school students to the field of transportation and empower them to take control of their educational future. The website consolidates information from ten schools across the Pacific Southwest region that house some of the nation’s most impressive transportation research, workforce, and training programs. “There are over 13 million people in the United States today that are working in transportation. It’s a great opportunity for people who are looking for their next career or their first career. The opportunities are endless.” says METRANS Director, Marlon Boarnet, on the website’s home page video.
The website highlights the communities of transportation enthusiasts present at each of the ten schools. Students can learn about student organizations such as the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and the opportunities that undergraduate students have access to when joining these groups.
The website is also a resource for educators and educational mentors. The ‘Get Involved’ section of the site contains a curated list of transportation internships and opportunities that school counselors, college mentors, and students can browse and share with their peers. Many transportation programs often target undergraduate and graduate students but the Transportation Pathways site specifically focuses on opportunities open to currently enrolled high school students. Government, industry, and non- profit organizations in the field of transportation looking to promote their K-12 outreach efforts including internship opportunities, events, and webinars can submit a request to be featured on the Transportation Pathways website.
As a leading transportation research center, METRANS is committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of transportation experts. Visit www.transportationpathways.org to learn more!
