We are pleased to introduce you to Student Assistant Gayatri Vilas Nilengekar, who joined METRANS in February. Ms. Nilengekar was born and raised in Aurangabad, India, where she completed her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the Government College of Engineering. She worked as a Quality Senior Engineer at Bajaj Motors, a System Management Intern at Generosity Water, and as a Industrial Engineering Intern at American International Industries and Operations Information System Business Analyst at Amgen.

Nilengekar is pursuing an MS in Industrial Engineering and Systems Engineering at USC, and shared what drew her towards her field of study. “I chose Industrial Engineering to learn about challenges in different industries,”  she said, “and how to apply technical and management skills to work on these challenges.” She is now assisting with a METRANS research project studying drayage trucking and warehousing in the greater Los Angeles area, conducting interviews of trucking and warehousing firms as well as performing analysis of collected data.

She expressed her happiness about this opportunity and said, “I have taken up this project as I am always ready to learn new things and applying my skills and knowledge to this project will help me learn more about the field of transportation.”  Going forward, she aspires to work in the field of process optimization, supply chain and manufacturing.

METRANS wishes Ms. Nilengekar success in all her endeavors and welcomes her to the METRANS family.
