Dr. Marlon Boarnet, Professor of Public Policy and Director of the METRANS Transportation Consortium, joined the lineup of speakers at the 2025 Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Forum, Driving the Future– ITS for Safer, Smarter, and Sustainable Mobility on October 28, 2025. Boarnet joined the panel titled Intelligent Transportation Systems for Safety and Congestion Management – Measuring Impact. The event was part of the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) week-long Plenary on Intelligent Transport Systems and was hosted by the Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) and Research and Economic Development (RED) at the University of California, Riverside.
ISO / TC 204 is responsible for the overall system aspects and infrastructure aspects of intelligent transport systems (ITS), as well as the coordination of the overall ISO work programme in the field including the schedule for standards development, taking into account the work of existing international standardization bodies.
Participants from across academia, industry, and government unpacked the role of ITS in shaping safer and smarter mobility. Through keynotes, panel discussions, technical sessions, and interactive workshops, the forum highlighted innovations in AI, connected infrastructure, congestion management, and automated vehicle readiness. Attendants also gained first-hand insight into regional and international deployments, as well as the policy and technology frameworks driving global ITS progress.
