Project description
The use of electric vehicles (EVs) in new mobility services (such as Lyft and Uber) is growing at a tremendous rate and offers many environmental benefits as the travel intensity from these services are substantially higher than average drivers. However, employing EVs in this context leads to very different use and charging demand patterns than "traditional" electric vehicles. Since the current rollout and infrastructure planning is specific for a use-case that does not align with new mobility EV use, there is a need for further research on infrastructure development for Uber/Lyft type services. This project will focus on identifying the optimal placement and type of chargers that will be needed to fulfill the requirements of charging demand from EVs within new mobility services. Additionally, the chargers can be strategically placed to serve specific communities or provide other services (last-mile events, support of public transit).
