Last month, Operation Lifesaver, a nonprofit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks, kicked off the second annual Railroad Safety Week (Sept. 23-29). Believe it or not, a person or vehicle is hit by a train about every three hours in the U.S. The goal of Rail Safety Week is to raise awareness, encourage rail safety education and empower the public to make smart decisions near railroad crossings.

On Friday, September 28th, several USC Price school alumni formed a panel to discuss their careers working in the private sector.

The panel discussion,  “A Peek into the Private Sector” was organized by the USC Price Office of Career Services (OCS) and moderated by Seta Kenady, Associate Director of Employer Relations at OCS.

On Monday, September 24th, the METRANS Speaker Series welcomed University of Southern California, Price School of Public Policy student Gene Burinskiy to discuss his doctoral research on “Gentrification Near Rail Transit Areas: A micro-data analysis of moves into and out of Los Angeles Metro rail station areas.” This highly relevant research brought a packed room for the event.

On Thursday, September 16, Fehr & Peers, a transportation consulting firm located in Downtown Los Angeles, opened its doors to ten emerging planners selected by the Young Planners Group of the American Planning Association (APA) Los Angeles chapter. This event, named Plates with Planners, was the first of its kind and proved to be a successful way to connect students and recent grads with professionals in the transportation industry.
