Weibo, often referred to as the Chinese version of Twitter, is used as a major public outreach tool by the USC Price School of Public Policy to connect to potential Chinese students, alumni, and parents. During this past year, the USC Price Weibo account posted METRANS student news on a regular basis and received outstanding engagement and positive responses from the Chinese audience.

Two of the significant problems in the shipping industry in Southern California are congestion and pollution, caused in no small part by the growth of container volume at the Southern California Ports. Though the pollution problem has been mitigated through the Alternative Maritime Power for Vessels & Clean Truck Program, the congestion problem persists.

METRANS sent five students nominated by faculty based on their academic excellence, to the 22nd Annual California Transportation Foundation (CTF) Symposium event held at the Chaminade Resort Conference Center in Santa Cruz, California on November 3 and 4. Students representing USC were Maya Bouchet (Price School of Public Policy Bachelor’s degree in Policy, Planning and Development), Fernanda Gushken (Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering) and David Roachford (Price School of Public Policy, B.S. degree program In Policy, Planning and Development).
